Help with navigation/map symbol please!!?

I very much need to know what exactly this is...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Atlantisthelosttales.jpg in the picture of this video game box at the top, there is what appears to be come kind of ancient navigation chart or mapping of something. I've seen this somewhere else before but this example is the only one I could find. This would very much help me out! Please help!
