How do you combat collective stupidity?

I define stupidity as deciding to ignore the truth or the wise choice. In this question being stupid for the sake of belonging to the group, as in peer pressure. Haven't you ever been in a situation where, even though you knew you were right, everyone opposed you? Examples would be Socrates or that other guy who wouldn't support King Henry VIII in his remarriage after his divorce.
