Philosophy essay help please?
from my epistemic study of virtue theory, it seemed to me that the maximization of virtue was more aimed at being a good person (ultimately for the benefit of others) rather than personal happiness. A specific example had always stood out to me. the author asked, "do you seek an education so that you can enrich your understanding of the world around you or so that you can make others feel stupid in fevered discourse?" what if the answer was "to make people feel stupid because that is what makes me happy!" does that sound like a virtuous endeavor? of course not, therefore happiness cannot be the only motivator for virtue. there are also several different categories of virtue, intellectual virtue, spiritual virtue, behavioral virtue, empathetic virtue and so on. each has a different function within its context. If I were you, I would argue the social contract ("community", but only for the purpose of this essay, not because it is necessarily true). I think that your prof has narrowed the field a bit too much on this to be honest.
